COCA Recognizes ECAO with Chair’s Award

March 17, 2017

The Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario was honoured with a Council of Ontario Construction Associations (COCA) Chair’s Award at COCA’s recent AGM (L-R in photo: Gary van Bolderen, COCA Board Chair and Jeff Koller, ECAO Executive Director).

The award is presented at the discretion of the Chair for contributions to the success of COCA that go above and beyond what is normally expected.

Among other awards presented at the AGM, COCA honoured three individuals with the COCA Construction Hard Hat Award, a new award recognizing people who do something truly special to advance the interests of the construction industry:

  • Bruce Reynolds and Sharon Vogel of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. In February 2015, Sharon and Bruce were appointed as Counsel and Co-counsel to lead the Construction Lien Act Review. A report they submitted in May 2016 to the Ontario Government has laid the foundation for generational reform of the Construction Lien Act and the introduction of real time dispute resolution and standard payment terms for the industry. The report was cited in recent Senate discussions as a model for the federal Canada Prompt Payment Act
  • Ted Dryer, who practices construction law, with the Kitchener-based firm of Madorin Snyder LLP. Ted volunteered to serve as chair of COCA’s Construction Lien Act Reform Task Force. In this role he led discussions among a large and diverse group of volunteers during numerous teleconferences, and with this input drafted COCA’s submissions to Bruce and Sharon’s review
