Wind TurbineA delegation of five businesses mostly from the Gaspésie region have returned from an economic mission to Texas with nearly 30 requests for service and partnership opportunities involving North American players in the wind turbine operation and maintenance field. Organized by the TechnoCentre éolien and the Quebec Wind Energy Cluster, the April 14 to 17 trade mission featured business meetings, a trade show, presentations, and a tour of a wind farm remote control facility.

The mission aimed primarily to promote the products and services of Quebec businesses active specifically in the wind turbine maintenance and operation field. The five enterprises that made up the delegation were Suspendem – Rope Access Incorporated, B&B High Performance Brake Pads, Maintenance Logic System, Techéol, and Collineo. Members of the delegation participated in 56 business meetings, several of which were highly promising in terms of contracts.

“This has been my most successful mission since our company was founded. I have a week’s work ahead of me simply to prepare all the bids,” said Evan Mulrooney, Operations Manager at Techéol. As for Roger St-Arneault, CEO of Maintenance Logic Systems in Gaspé, “the organized business meetings gave me the opportunity to meet the right people and increase the likelihood of obtaining contracts.”

“I’ve taken part in a number of economic missions abroad with other organizations in the past and this one was the very best,” added Collineo CEO, Guillaume Lambert. “It was so well organized that I had a full slate of business meetings. They might ultimately lead to three contracts in the short term: two in the inspection and engineering field and the other involving wind power-related robotic technologies. And then there are all the projects that could be accomplished in partnership.”

The dynamic energy of the Quebec delegation did not go unnoticed at the summit. “The results obtained by our enterprises during this mission clearly demonstrate that they can earn distinction on international markets,” said Frédéric Côté, TechnoCentre éolien General Manager. “Backed by the maturity they’ve acquired in Quebec, they can now offer innovative products and services to major North American prime contractors.”

Today we are all concerned with the energy we consume within our homes. But how many truly understand the ins and outs of home energy use, and where exactly does the electrician and the development of energy management systems come into play. There is much to consider when discussing home energy use. The consumer first off needs to be informed about energy use, how it is calculated and ultimately billed if they are to make changes to their energy consumption rates. But in terms of educating consumers does the residential electrician have a role? And beyond that are manufacturers developing products designed to help electricians and consumers better understand residential energy use? Throughout this article we will deal with each of these important questions.

Jeremy Herrington

Total Electrical Solutions was founded in 2013 by Jeremy Herrington in Quispamsis, on the outskirts of Saint John, New Brunswick. Since 2013 Jeremy has steadily grown Total Electrical Solutions in the residential, commercial and construction sectors. The growth is primarily the result of Jeremy’s customer first philosophy, plus his over 20 years of industry experience.

Jeremy grew up learning about the industry from his father who was an electrical contractor. Jeremy spent his early years helping and watching his father as a contractor and business owner. After high school Jeremy was, like many, not wholly aware of the course he wished to take and so he began an electrical apprenticeship at his father’s company.
