Canadian Electrical Industry News Week

cullitonStratford, ON - February 21, 2014:  Delivering quality and value on several high profile construction projects including the Grand River Hospital Patient Care Development – Kitchener and the Niagara Outlet Collection- Niagara-on-the-Lake; Culliton, a multi-trade contractor in Southern Ontario, has been named the “2013 SIMpull Solutions Contractor of the Year” for Ontario and Eastern Canada.

Based in Stratford, Ontario, and now in its 82nd year, Culliton is a mechanical, electrical and HVAC contractor performing construction projects of all sizes. With an impressive record of completing complex projects in healthcare, education, government, commercial and industrial buildings as well as condominium high-rise.

The award was presented to Culliton on Friday, February 21, 2014 by Southwire Canada®, a leading wire and cable manufacturer whose Canadian headquarters are in Mississauga, Ontario. Southwire® is the maker of SIMpull Solutions, an innovative portfolio of products that are designed to make wire installations easier, safer and more effective than traditional methods.

“SIMpull Solutions is all about innovation and efficiency. We wanted to recognize a contractor that has not only embraced SIMpull Solutions but one that really incorporates innovation in everything they do; and never stops looking to evolve their processes that will make them more successful,” said Axel Schlumberger, President of Southwire Canada, in presenting the award to Tim Culliton, President and CEO of Culliton.

“We are always looking for ways to improve”, said Tim Culliton, “We have a culture gripped by pride to deliver quality and value to our customer.”

“We look for manufacturers that are innovative and willing to work with us to give us pre-fabricated solutions, such as SIMpull Solutions, that will save us a great deal of time and money in the field and make us better able to deliver projects on schedule”, said Ted Lange, Chief Operating Officer at Culliton.

“By using solutions such as SIMpull, we can control and standardize our work better. It’s given us the confidence to go after large scale, fast paced electrical projects, outside of our local home area,” said Culliton.  While their work might be reaching well beyond their Stratford office, they are still very much a part of their community. One of the most visible community support initiatives of the company is that  the past 39 years, Culliton has been the proud team sponsor of the Stratford Cullitons Junior B Hockey team – one of the provinces most successful Junior Hockey Teams.

“Culliton has proven to be a strong partner for us.  They don’t just take the solutions as we present them but they work with us, giving us feedback on new products and sometimes they customize it to make it work for them,”  said Schlumberger.  “It’s that constant drive to be better; that willingness to take a risk on something new that sets them apart and makes them such a great successful, Canadian business.”

Today we are all concerned with the energy we consume within our homes. But how many truly understand the ins and outs of home energy use, and where exactly does the electrician and the development of energy management systems come into play. There is much to consider when discussing home energy use. The consumer first off needs to be informed about energy use, how it is calculated and ultimately billed if they are to make changes to their energy consumption rates. But in terms of educating consumers does the residential electrician have a role? And beyond that are manufacturers developing products designed to help electricians and consumers better understand residential energy use? Throughout this article we will deal with each of these important questions.

Jeremy Herrington

Total Electrical Solutions was founded in 2013 by Jeremy Herrington in Quispamsis, on the outskirts of Saint John, New Brunswick. Since 2013 Jeremy has steadily grown Total Electrical Solutions in the residential, commercial and construction sectors. The growth is primarily the result of Jeremy’s customer first philosophy, plus his over 20 years of industry experience.

Jeremy grew up learning about the industry from his father who was an electrical contractor. Jeremy spent his early years helping and watching his father as a contractor and business owner. After high school Jeremy was, like many, not wholly aware of the course he wished to take and so he began an electrical apprenticeship at his father’s company.
