PowerStream Goes Public with High-Speed EV Charging

Power Stream

Electric vehicle (EV) owners, who reside in or travel through Vaughan, ON can now take advantage of a high-speed charging station that can power up their cars in less than 30 minutes and at no cost.

PowerStream’s head office unveiled a level 3 charger unit that is being made available for public use. The unit, which charges 10 times faster than the more common-place level 2 chargers, is equipped to handle both CHAdeMO and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) compatible electric vehicles.

The level 3 charging station’s power is being supplied by PowerStream but paid for courtesy of G&W Canada and Survalent Technology.

PowerStream has also introduced the first commercial Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) power supply system in North America, with two high-capacity level 2 chargers connected to a solar carport located in the back parking lot of the company’s head office building. PowerStream worked with Nissan to better understand how the all-electric LEAF can be connected to power systems to potentially benefit utility companies and drivers alike.

There are currently more than 2,000 electric vehicles in Ontario and approximately 300 in PowerStream’s service territory. PowerStream’s unveiling of level 3 and V2G charging systems today is consistent with the company’s ongoing commitment to facilitate the connection of electric vehicles to the power grid.
