BC Safety Authority

BC Safety Authority is currently recruiting members for its Electrical Technology Advisory Committee.

The Electrical Technology Advisory Committee is looking for expertise in the following areas:

• Regulators
• Power utilities
• Education – focus on journeyman education

The Role of Technology Advisory Committees
Technology Advisory Committees are not decision-making bodies. Their role is to identify and to advise BC Safety Authority on issues related to:

• Technical safety
• Regulatory improvement
• Service delivery

Technology Advisory Committee members do not formally represent any affiliated association, group or organization. Rather, members bring their independent, well-rounded expertise to the Committee as representatives of their industry sector by providing unbiased input and advice.

Qualifications
BC Safety Authority seeks a broad range of expertise and experience on its Technology Advisory Committees. Prospective committee members should have the following qualifications:

• Practical knowledge of and experience in the specific technical area;
• Understanding of the provincial safety system and general principles of public and worker safety;
• A solid professional reputation within the safety system and community;
• Strong ethical standards and personal integrity;
• Ability and willingness to address issues in a non-partisan manner, while considering the opinion of others and working as a team member;
• Comfort with open dialogue and coming to group agreement through consensus;
• Willingness and ability to attend and participate actively in Committee meetings and/or Risk Reduction Working Groups.

Term
Technology Advisory Committee members may serve up to two three-year terms. Each spring, a review of membership tenure and sector needs assessment will be conducted by BC Safety Authority and the Committee Chair. General criteria for renewal is based on member attendance, participation, expertise currently required, and sector diversification.
