Quebec’s Chauffez Vert Financial Assistance Program for Electric Heating

June 2, 2025

The government’s Chauffez vert program  offers financial assistance to homeowners who wish to replace their oil or propane central heating system with a system that runs on renewable energy (electricity, etc.).

Water heater conversion work is also eligible under certain conditions.

Summary of eligible work

To be eligible for financial assistance, the fuel heating system conversion work must include:

  • removal of the fuel oil or propane tank (even if it supplies other equipment);
  • the complete dismantling of the fuel furnace or boiler;
  • the installation of a new heating system, running on electricity (or with a combination of renewable energies).

Conversion work on a water heater using the same fuel may also be eligible for financial assistance if carried out at the same time.

Expected benefits

There are several benefits to replacing your oil or propane heating system with a heating system that runs on electricity or another renewable energy source  :

  • obtain financial assistance for your work;
  • improve the energy efficiency of your home;
  • contribute to limiting greenhouse gas emissions.

Completely removing your oil or propane tank will allow you to eliminate  :

  • the risks of fossil fuel leaks and spills;
  • the risks of contamination of the soil or the water table.

You will be able to reclaim additional space in your basement if your tank is located inside the house.
