Ontario Solar Incentives with Essex Energy

Essex Energy is helping municipalities, universities and colleges across Ontario take advantage of incentives under Ontario’s Retrofit DER Program including solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

What’s Available

Significant rebates available to eligible businesses and institutional organizations deploying rooftop or parking lot solar PV systems. These incentives are paid upon completion of the project, accelerating project payback and improving long‑term returns. Institutions engaging with Essex Energy can access:

• Rebates of up to $860 per kW(AC) of installed capacity
• Turnkey project development and incentive application administration
• Support designed specifically for large-scale, rooftop solar solutions
• Various ownership options, including customer owned systems and potentially ownership by Essex Energy (via lease or Power Purchase Agreement)

Why It Matters

• Reduce capital investment: Rebates can cover up to 50% of total costs. Or if the system is owned by Essex Energy, no capital investment.
• Shorter ROI timelines: Institutions can achieve breakeven faster and benefit sooner from savings.
• Sustainable leadership: Solar systems demonstrate commitment to clean energy, contributing to sustainability and carbon reduction goals.

Next Steps

There is no cost or commitment to see if you qualify, only some basic information is required:

• Name and address of the facility
• 12 consecutive months of hydro bills OR a full year of hourly meter data (preferred)
• Name and contact info of a designated contact person
