Ontario Electrical League Welcomes Premier to Highlight Skilled Training Investment

August 28, 2025

This round of the  Skills Development Fund (SDF) Training Stream will provide $260 million for innovative projects that support the hiring, training and upskilling of workers in manufacturing, health care, construction, automotive and other skilled trades.

Ontario Electrical League will recieve $2,995,000 to help 500 journeypersons, registered apprentices, people residing in remote/rural communities with financial aid, training, and outreach to address labour shortages in the electrical sector. People interested in participating can apply by contacting the Ontario Electrical League at 905-238-1382.

“Today, we were proud to stand beside several of our partners in welcoming Premier Doug Ford and MPP Mohamed Firin to our office as they highlighted Ontario’s investment in the Skills Development Fund (SDF),” announced the OEL on LinkedIn. “This investment strengthens the future of electrical trades and supports the workers who are powering Ontario’s growth, prosperity, and success.”

Support Ontario Youth also recieved funding through this round, getting $3,750,000 to support 1,325 jobseekers, high school graduates and apprentices across 15 skilled trades through tailored education, hands on training, mentorship and employer matching. People interested in participating can visit https://toolsinthetrades.ca/.

Thanks to SDF support, OEL is delivering real impact across the province:
  • Accelerating workforce training: expanding supports so more apprentices make it from first day to licensed electrician.
  • Strengthening small business employers: providing toolkits, peer networks, and wage subsidies that keep contractors thriving.
  • Building resilient, healthy workers: with our UofT partnership, embedding mental health and wellness supports directly into the trades.
  • Expanding inclusion & opportunity: connecting women, youth, newcomers, Francophones, and rural workers to resources, mentors, and lasting careers.
  • Driving innovative partnerships: with Support Ontario Youth, ReSTORE Lab, and others, setting new benchmarks in apprenticeship innovation and workforce wellbeing.
