Ontario Investing $8 Million to Upgrade Alexander Community Centre in Ottawa
October 9, 2025
The Ontario government is investing more than $8 million to protect jobs and support upgrades to Ottawaโs Alexander Community Centre, including the construction of a new gymnasium three times larger than the current one. This project is part of the $200 millionย Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fundย (CSRIF), a provincewide initiative to revitalize local facilities and promote active, healthy living across Ontario.
The governmentโs investment will support the construction of a new 6,243-square-foot gymnasium for basketball, pickleball, volleyball and other sports, and the existing gym will be transformed into a multi-purpose space for cultural, fitness and recreational activities. Construction will double the community centreโs capacity, allowing it to host over 100,000 people annually, increasing access to after-school programming and seasonal camps for the community. The new building will also include expanded gathering areas, upgraded washrooms and improved IT infrastructure.
CSRIF is a key part of the governmentโs plan to protect Ontario workers, businesses and families by unleashing the economy and getting more shovels in the ground, with a historic $200 billion investment to build highways, hospitals, transit, schools and other critical infrastructure across the province.
