Meet Project Requirements with Workflows that Help Teams Comply with ISO 19650

ISO-19650

The use of standards for construction project delivery has grown exponentially over the last decade. Standards define the collaborative processes for managing information over the project lifecycle. Ensuring consistent document control is key to meeting project requirements and avoiding rework. Without a standardized document control process, teams waste countless hours looking for the most up-to-date information.

National and regional mandates, and an increase in Building Information Modeling (BIM), have led to the development of the ISO 19650 – a global design and construction information management standard. We are excited to share that Autodesk Construction Cloud and BIM 360 now include workflows to help our customers comply with ISO 19650 standards.
Designed and built-in close collaboration with Autodesk customers, Autodesk Construction Cloud provides our customers with the tools they need to manage and optimize the review, exchange, and distribution of project drawings, models, and other data. With workflows that now support the ISO 19650 standard in both Autodesk Docs and BIM 360 Docs, teams can efficiently configure, organize, and distribute documents across the project lifecycle.

The ISO standard calls for project data to be stored and managed in a certain way. As a result, Autodesk Construction Cloud and BIM 360 common data environments enable users to store and manage their project data in compliance with ISO 19650 standards.

Preview and Enforce the Naming Standard

ISO 19650 has specific requirements related to the common environment, particularly with naming convention standards that are defined by each country adopting the standard. With Autodesk Construction Cloud’s unified platform and BIM 360, you can now create, manage, and enforce a naming standard across project files to ensure standardization. Easily customize and configure standard and related attribute fields.

Project admins can also quickly create the naming standard for the project using the ISO 19650 template. After configuring the naming standard, admins can then enforce the naming standard on selected folders and subfolders.

Validate the Naming Standard

Beyond creating naming standards, workflows within Autodesk Construction Cloud and BIM 360 can help users to make their files and data comply with ISO 19650 standards. The Validator ensures files uploaded conform with the project naming standard. Quickly update the necessary fields with drop down menu selections and bulk editing.

The Validator will check if the inputted text is corresponding to the naming standard defined by the Project Admin. Users can easily update the necessary fields with drop down menu selections.

Streamline Workflows with the Holding Area

If files are validated and conform to the project naming standard, users can proceed to upload the files to the destination folder with an enforced naming standard. But if project files do not conform to the project naming standard, utilize the Holding Area to ensure a seamless file upload process.

If Project Admins enable the Holding Area, files with conforming names will be uploaded, while the non-conforming files will be sent to the Holding Area. Navigate to the Holding Area to continue the renaming of documents, validate, and complete the upload process.

Increase Efficiency with Integrations

Connected project naming standards enforcement in Autodesk Construction Cloud and BIM 360 help to reduce guesswork and save time. But Autodesk also provides additional benefits and functionality for how data is managed in our common data environment and how data is passed on from our design authoring tools.

In addition to connecting workflows throughout the entire construction lifecycle within Autodesk Construction Cloud’s unified platform, native naming standard integrations across Revit, AutoCAD, and Desktop Connector tie into a truly connected ecosystem.
