ECAO Executive Director R. Graeme Aitken Statement on Latest Tariff Developments

September 16, 2026

Ontario’s electrical contractors are navigating a period of increased cost, pricing and procurement uncertainty as the latest tariff measures take effect.

In his latest statement, ECAO Executive Director R. Graeme Aitken outlines what these developments mean for contractors and how ECAO is working to support members as the situation evolves.

ECAO’s recent member pulse survey found that 54% of respondents report an impact that is already known or highly likely, while 90% identify current fixed-price projects as the work most exposed.

That evidence matters. Real-world examples help ECAO better understand the impact on contractors and strengthen ECAO’s ability to advocate for practical, targeted relief where it is needed.

ECAO encourages members to continue sharing their experiences through ECAO’s tariff survey. Even one anonymized example — a product, project type and cost movement — can help build the industry’s evidence base.
