ESA Provides an Update on its New Self-Serve Licensing Platform

March 27, 2026

In October 2025 Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) officially launched its new self-serve licensing platform, a modern system designed to transform how Master Electricians (MEs) and Licensed Electrical Contractors (LECs) manage their licensing needs. The platform replaces paper-based processes and provides a centralized, web-based experience for renewing and applying for licences, paying fees and managing licensing documents. ME Exam applicants can also register for an exam, and, upon passing, seamlessly apply for their ME licence through the same platform.

Emily Larose, Vice President Regulatory & General Counsel at Electrical Safety Authority shared an update on LinkedIn after the first five months of the new system.

“𝗘𝗦𝗔 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟭𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗟𝗘𝗖𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝟳,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗠𝗘𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲. At that scale, how our licensing processes function isn’t simply administrative — it’s foundational to keeping the electrical sector moving, while supporting safety and consumer protection,” Larose said via LinkedIn.

“Our goal wasn’t simply to put forms online. It was to create a more connected, more transparent and more efficient licensing experience, one shaped directly by the people who use it. Input from licence holders, ESA staff and our sector partners informed the design, ensuring the platform reflects how today’s electrical industry operates. 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴, 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺.”

“A huge thank you to the ESA teams who built the platform and to our licence holders who have signed up and shared feedback along the way.”
