Engineering is required for electrical drawings and installations for all Part 3 buildings.

Clause 8(1)(b) of the Winnipeg Electrical By-law requires that a professional engineer entitled to practice in the Province of Manitoba, and skilled in the area of work, be responsible for electrical drawings and for supervision and certification of the electrical installation for all Part 3 buildings as defined by the Manitoba Building Code (MBC).

This applies to:

  • additions 15% or greater than the existing building*
  • alterations when a change of occupancy is desired*

*Smaller additions and alterations where there is no change of occupancy may require engineering if deemed necessary by the designated employee.
