ABB Emergi-Lite EUPHR Series and LAPHR Series Egress Luminaires Selected for 2026 IES Industry Progress Report

ABB’s EUPHR Series and LAPHR Series Egress Luminaires, designed to illuminate paths of egress, or emergency exit routes, have been selected for inclusion in the 2026 Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Industry Progress Report.

Published annually, the report highlights significant advancements in the art and science of lighting. Submissions are assessed through an impartial judging process based on their uniqueness, innovation, and significance to the lighting industry.

The EUPHR Series and LAPHR Series Egress Luminaires provide clear illumination along emergency exit routes in high-ceiling industrial environments such as warehouses, manufacturing plants, and distribution centers, where conventional emergency lighting can struggle to provide effective coverage.

ABB Emergi-Lite EUPHR Series and LAPHR Series Egress Luminaires Selected for 2026 IES Industry Progress Report

The luminaires feature a purpose-built photometric system combining fixed asymmetric optics, 355-degree rotational flexibility for precision aiming, and adjustable multi-head LED modules. These features enable light to be directed precisely along the path of egress, providing highly uniform illumination and reducing dark or unevenly lit areas that could make it harder for people to find their way out of buildings safely.

Designed for mounting heights of up to 70 feet, individual luminaires can be positioned up to 192 feet apart depending on the configuration, while maintaining consistent illumination along the exit route. By allowing wider spacing between luminaires, the system can reduce the number needed across a facility, offering greater design flexibility while helping to lower equipment and installation costs.

The Egress luminaires operate as part of a centralized mini-inverter system, which provides backup power to the emergency lights if the building’s normal electricity supply fails. A single mini-inverter can support up to 81 luminaires. The centralized system also provides convenient floor-level access, making the system easier to service while helping to reduce ongoing maintenance costs.

“Emergency lighting in industrial buildings with very high ceilings comes with a distinct set of challenges,” said Fabio Mercurio, Business Line Leader for Emergency Lighting at ABB Electrification’s Smart Buildings Division. “People still need a clear route out, but providing effective coverage across such large spaces can be difficult.”

Inclusion in the IES Industry Progress Report is an important recognition of the engineering behind the solution and its practical value for facility owners and operators.”

The 2026 IES Industry Progress Report was presented at IES26: The Lighting Conference and will be published in the November issue of LD+A Magazine.
