Electrical Industry Students Earn Hydro One Mandamin Scholarships

March 9 2016

Three of 10 students honoured with a 2016 Hydro One Mandamin scholarship are planning careers in the electrical industry. Named after the Honourable Justice Leonard S. (Tony) Mandamin, one of Ontario’s first electrical engineering graduates of First Nations ancestry, the scholarships recognize outstanding First Nations, Métis and Inuit students for their dedication in pursuing studies related to the industry and the efforts they have made in their communities.

Scholarship winners receive a financial award along with an opportunity to apply for a paid work term with Hydro One in a developmental student placement. The following three students are specifically focusing on careers in the electrical industry:

  • Brandon Casquenette is in his third year of Electrical Technology at Georgian College. Brandon has had three co-op opportunities during the program, two of which were with Hydro One.
  • Dalton Mathias describes himself as a proud Aboriginal man, active in his community and not afraid of hard work. This scholarship is a major step in his journey to achieve his goal of working in the electrical field.
  • Michael Vansickle is a third year energy systems engineering technology student at Mohawk College. Michael is looking to pursue a career in power distribution or power generation.

“I feel honoured to work for a leading company that recognizes the importance of supporting Aboriginal students in their pursuit of post-secondary education. The Mandamin Award is a shining example of our company’s commitment to the First Nations and Métis Relations Policy and the communities we serve,” says Lee Anne Cameron, Director, First Nations and Métis Relations.
