Northern Cables Inc. Recalls Two Conductor #12 AWG AC90 Cable

August 4, 2016

Northern Cables Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of the two conductor #12 AWG AC90 armoured cable (black/white). The issue is limited to 12/2 AC90 (black/white) cable, produced between June 4 and June 6, 2013.

The insulation on the black conductor may split when severely bent or twisted, which could result in an electrical short circuit. The defect in the 12/2 AC90 was intermittent and not all product produced in this time frame was defective. The date of manufacture can be found on the bottom of the cable reel tag (see photo).

There have been no reported incidents or injuries. The cable was distributed from June 4, 2013 to July 20, 2013.

If you have uninstalled cable on hand, return it to Northern Cables Inc. for replacement.

If the product has been installed, the termination points should be checked by a licensed electrical contractor for any signs of the insulation splitting. The splitting will typically occur in areas where the insulated conductors have been severely bent or twisted, such as when a device is pushed into an electrical box. If splitting is found, Northern Cables Inc. will supply all necessary materials to replace any questionable cable.
