GE Canada’s Elyse Allan Recognized as Energy Person of the Year

November 13, 2016

The Canadian Energy Person of the Year award, issued by the Energy Council of Canada, recognizes significant contributions to the energy sector – in the industry, government and community contexts – and in advancing Canada’s role in world energy markets.

In her remarks during an awards ceremony in Toronto last week, Allan endorsed the Liberal government’s national carbon-price plan. She told attendees that energy companies must embrace innovation and lower their environmental footprint, and their customers must increase their efficiency. “Carbon pricing is the most tangible and cost-effective policy tool available to achieve what Canadians are demanding,” The Globe & Mail quoted her as saying.

Allan earned the award for her passionate commitment to Canadian competitiveness, her advocacy for the application of science and innovation to energy sector challenges, her engagement in dialogue on energy strategy and policy, and her strong record of community service.

The Energy Council of Canada is a non-profit organization dedicated to achieving an affordable, stable and environmentally-sound energy system providing the greatest benefit for all Canadians. The council is the Canadian Member Committee of the World Energy Council.
