Société de transport de Montréal to Purchase 40 More Electric Buses

STM

September 27, 2017

The Société de transport de Montréal has announced that it plans to accelerate its electrification plans with the purchase of 40 additional electric buses.

The STM has three electric buses being tested as part of the Cité Mobilité project. The transit agency plans to buy several different types of electric buses.

Thirty will be regular 40-foot, slow-charging buses for various lines.

Another four 40-foot buses will use fast-charging technology and will be used on the 36 Monk line, making the line completely electric.

Four more midbuses (30 feet) will be acquired for the 212 Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue line.

The last two electric buses will be for paratransit, with the STM wanting to partner with a private company for a pilot project using electric buses for the service.

The STM is eligible for grants from the Quebec government to cover up to 90 per cent of the cost for the new buses.
