Alectra Earns ClimateWise Sustainability Leadership Award
June 11, 2018
Alectra Utilities earned the award for having developed a comprehensive greenhouse gas (GHG) baseline across all nine facilities in Ontario’s Greater Golden Horseshoe Area.
The baseline measurements used to measure the GHG reduction were taken from GHG emissions associated with electricity consumption, natural gas, fleet fuel and use of sulfur hexafluoride gas (SF6). The data were collected in 2016 and 2017 and compared between all nine Alectra offices and service centres. Alectra reports a decrease of 4.6% or 424.26 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents from 2016 to 2017.
Caroline Karvonen, Alectra’s Manager of Sustainability, received the award on behalf of the company at a recognition event held at the GM Canada, Technical Research Centre. This is the first time that Alectra has won this award.
