Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, congratulates the Port of Montreal on its recent win of a prestigious environmental award based on its implementation of Schneider Electric’s Shore Power solution.

The Port of Montreal’s team won the Prix AQTr Environnement Award at the recent Gala d’excellence de l’Association des transports du Quebec. The award, sponsored by the Quebec Transportation Association (AQTr), is given to Quebec projects that demonstrate a reduction in the environmental impacts of transportation.

Schneider Electric’s innovative Shore Power solution contributed to the Port’s reduction of 2,800 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually. Shore Power allows docked vessels to connect to the electrical grid and shut down their diesel engines, significantly reducing the air pollution the vessels produce.

Based on Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure platform, an Internet of Things-enabled architecture, Shore Power allows ships to connect to the electrical grid, simply, safely and efficiently. The standards-compliant solution relies on intelligent Schneider Electric devices, including sophisticated substation automation relays and power monitoring instruments. Through Shore Power, ports can track a ship’s operational data and energy consumption, trace system performance and events, collect billing information and rely on a user-friendly touchscreen for remote monitoring.

“On behalf of Schneider Electric Canada I’d like to extend our congratulations to the Port of Montreal for winning this prestigious award,” said Susan Uthayakumar, President of Schneider Electric Canada. “This is a great example of how innovative technology can help reduce environmental impacts and improve the quality of life for Canadians.”

“This project makes it possible to refuel vessels with cleaner energy during their stay at the Port of Montreal and it will lead to a reduction of 2,800 tonnes per year of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to the GHGs emitted by 700 motor vehicles,” said Daniel Dagenais, Vice-president, Operations at the Port of Montreal. “Such recognition enables the Port of Montreal to strengthen its positioning as a sustainable port and a leader in green navigation.”
