Nergica is both delighted and grateful to be the recipient of a $3,350,000 grant awarded by Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED). This news was announced July 23 by Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages. The grant covers the fiscal years of 2019 to 2022 and will allow Nergica to continue its pursuit of structuring, developing and sustaining solar and wind power and integrating these technologies onto the grid.

“Notwithstanding the difficulties we currently face, the climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time. It is thus paramount to encourage businesses in the province to develop more environmentally-friendly processes and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions while at the same time becoming more competitive. By promoting innovation in the renewable energy sphere through research, technical assistance, technology transfer and support for businesses and communities, Nergica is in consonance with our priorities in terms of climate action, which is why we are proud to support its remarkably innovative projects,” points out Minister Joly.

“Nergica is a recognized contributor to both the economy and the academic sector of our riding of Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine and I commend them for their work. I am happy to see this support awarded to them, as it will have positive repercussions not only on the sustainable energy sector, but also on the health of our beautiful province and the planet. Our government is determined to support the expansion of renewables to promote the energy transition, and this investment is part of that trend,” adds the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue and MP for Gaspésie–Les-Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

“For 20 years, Nergica has been dedicated to the development of renewable energy know-how in Quebec,” points out the company’s General Manager, Frédéric Côté. As a key partner for our organization, Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions allows us to access the state-of-the-art resources we need to support innovative enterprises throughout Quebec that are driving the energy transition.”

Thanks to this financial support, Nergica will ramp up its efforts in terms of research, innovation and technology transfer to Quebec-based SMEs working in the field of renewables. Collaboration between private enterprises and Nergica reinforces the innovative capacities of SMEs while improving the ensuing results and boosting the companies’ performance.

Nergica is one of the most important applied renewable energy research centres in Canada. The organization is recognized as a Canadian Technology Access Centre (TAC) as well as a College Centre for Technology Transfer (CCTT) affiliated with the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles.
