Atkore’s Calbrite brand is offering two alternative stainless steel solutions for customers typically familiar with stainless steel rigid conduit. As the only manufacturer of stainless steel Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) and stainless steel Intermediate Metal Conduit (IMC), Atkore offers these proven alternatives for certain washdown and harsh environments. Atkore is responding to the industry’s stainless steel rigid conduit needs with lighter weight choices that ultimately reduce lead time, shipping costs and installation time for applications including bakery, dairy, food processing, pharmaceutical, packaging, hospitals and other corrosive environments.

Atkore’s EMT and IMC conduit systems are manufactured in 304 and 316 stainless steel to meet stringent sanitary conditions and are polished with a standard “brite” finish for improved corrosion resistance and aesthetic appearance. Stainless steel EMT requires no threading and simplifies installation by assembling with a set screw or compression fitting. Weighing 58% less than stainless steel rigid conduit, stainless steel EMT conduit can be installed both indoors and outdoors. Weighing 25% less than stainless steel rigid conduit, stainless steel IMC is manufactured with or without threads and can operate in the same exact applications as stainless steel rigid conduit. IMC also thrives in corrosive environments subjected to harsh chemical treatments or washdowns, due to its lighter weight and precise tolerances.

“A number of our customers have successfully switched from stainless steel rigid conduit to EMT or IMC stainless conduit. It is a strong consideration to assist with the reduction of material and labor costs,” says Matt Westerfield, Product Manager at Calbrite-Atkore. “We are excited and fortunate to consistently fill the conduit needs for our customers within a variety of applications.”

Atkore’s complete line of stainless steel conduit is UL listed and NSF/ANSI certified.
