Generac and DR Portable Generators Recalled due to Finger Amputation and Crush Hazards

December 5, 2022

Generac and DR Brand 6500 Watt and 8000 Watt Portable Generators.

Immediately stop using the recalled generators, unless the locking pin has been inserted to secure the handle in place before and after moving the generator, and contact Generac for a free, updated repair kit.

This recall involves the Generac and DR brand 6500 watt and 8000 watt gasoline-powered portable generators on two wheels with a U-shaped flip-up handle for use when moving the generator. The affected generators can be identified by the model numbers in the tables. The model number and serial number can be found on the data plate, attached to the frame of the generator.

The folding handle on the side of the generators can pinch the user’s fingers, posing an amputation and crush hazard, unless the locking pin has been properly inserted to secure the handle in place before and after moving the generator.

As of November 8, 2022, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received a total of 37 reports of injuries including 24 reports of finger amputation and 5 of crush injuries.
