Jesse Spring of Primary Engineering and Construction Named EHRC 2024 Leader of the Year

January 6, 2025

Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC) is thrilled to announce Jesse Spring, CEO of Primary Engineering and Construction, as the recipient of the 2024 Leader of the Year Award. EHRC proudly recognizes Jesse for his leadership, which is built on excellence and powering growth.

Jesse’s journey with Primary began in 2008 as an Engineer-in-Training. His entrepreneurial spirit quickly became evident when he was instrumental in the launch of the ENMAX Developer Choice Program, a milestone achievement for the company. This success led to his promotion to Manager of B.C. Interior Operations in 2013 and then to Vice President of B.C. Operations in 2021, where he expanded services, including a team dedicated to substations and transmission projects.

In 2023, Jesse became President and CEO, bringing a wealth of experience and vision to the role. Under his leadership, the company has strengthened its focus on innovation, safety, and diversity, positioning Primary as an industry leader.

Today, Jesse leads over 450 employees across 13 offices, fostering sustainable growth and a culture of continuous improvement.

Nominated by his colleagues, Jesse is celebrated for his compassionate leadership and unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive, values-driven culture. For him, it’s not just about expanding in size and revenue; it’s about expanding Primary’s culture and dedication to client service.

Jesse will be formally presented with the award at EHRC’s 12th annual Awards of Excellence in Toronto on Feb. 20, 2025.

The Awards of Excellence event and gala celebrates human resources leadership and best practices in Canada’s electricity industry. As the industry’s premier leadership event, it kicks off with an exploration of Indigenous participation and education in the energy transition. The morning session will discuss new research findings and feature guest speakers about the capacity of Indigenous communities to transition to renewable sources.
