Mike Smith Honoured with the 2026 EFC Award of Excellence

April 10, 2026

On March 25, 2026, Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) proudly presented the Award of Excellence to Mike Smith, formerly of Rockwell Automation, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the electrical industry.

The EFC Award of Excellence is a peer-recognized distinction that honours individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and impact in the areas of codes and standards. It celebrates not only technical expertise, but also integrity, collaboration, and a deep commitment to advancing Canada’s electrical and automation community.

Mike Smith exemplifies these qualities. A highly respected and well-known figure within the codes and standards ecosystem, Mike has been a steadfast advisor and influential leader throughout his career. His contributions span EFC Business Sections, ETAC, numerous task groups, and his role as a voting member of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I Committee. In every capacity, he has demonstrated both technical mastery and a passion for electrical safety.

Mike’s leadership has also extended to national and international standards development, including roles across numerous technical committees. He has contributed to CANENA Technical Harmonization Subcommittees and served on the CANENA Executive Committee.

Mike’s contributions have been recognized with several prestigious honours, including the IEC 1906 Award, the Rockwell Automation Technical Award for work on industry standards, and the CSA Award of Merit.

With this recognition, Mike joins a distinguished group of industry leaders who have shaped Canada’s codes and standards landscape, including Vladimir Gagachev (Eaton), Keith Rodel (Hubbell), and the late Pierre Desilet (Leviton). His name now becomes part of this enduring legacy.

On behalf of the entire Business Section community and the EFC team, we extend our sincere gratitude to Mike for his years of service and his lasting contributions to the industry.
