Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault Named Ontario’s Minster of Energy
June 14, 2016
In what one newspaper has described as a quantum leap, first-time MPP Glenn Thibeault has been appointed Ontario’s Minister of Energy. Thibeault had previously served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change.
Before entering provincial politics in 2015, Thibeault was a federal MP for Sudbury, elected in 2008. Born in Sudbury and a graduate of Cambrian College, Thibeault has been a champion for significant investment in the Ring of Fire.
Writing in The Globe and Mail, journalist Adrian Morrow says the complicated energy portfolio has been widely seen as a career killer. “Even though some people have wished me condolences, I’m actually very, very excited at the opportunity,” Morrow quotes Thibeault as saying. [1]
As a director with the United Way, Thibeault has led successful campaigns in support of community development. He has also been a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as with minor hockey and football leagues, and is a strong advocate for supports for persons with developmental disabilities, and for quality services for families struggling with autism.
