Contractors Guild, Ainsworth, Symtech, Plan and ACML donated their services to temporarily reconfigure the buildings’ automated lighting systems, while a crew of staff and volunteers worked to open and close blinds on over 6,000 windows across the TD Centre’s five towers to create the message “Less is more or” in 100-foot-tall lights.

A media statement called it the largest public art project of its kind undertaken anywhere in the world. Artist Aude Moreau used lit and unlit windows on the top 10 floors of the TD Centre’s towers to form the message, building on a phrase developed by the TD Centre’s modernist architect Mies van der Roh.

The project was presented by Cadillac Fairview and TD Bank Group as part of the TD Centre’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

The undertaking required months of planning and preparation as well as the co-operation of tenants across the complex, the statement noted.

The work is the latest of Moreau’s illuminated skyscraper projects in major North American urban centres, including Montreal, Los Angeles and New York.

The TD Centre consists of six buildings: 66 Wellington St. W., 77 King St. W., 100 Wellington St. W., 79 Wellington St. W., 222 Bay St. and 95 Wellington St. W
