Trades Training

July 9, 2018

In late June the federal government signed agreements with Alberta, BC and the Northwest Territories that will top up existing investment plans by $754 million, for a total federal investment in jobs and skills training of $4.25 billion over six years.

Through these agreements, the Government of Canada aims to ensure more people benefit from programs, particularly people from underrepresented groups, such as women, Indigenous people, and people with disabilities.

Funds will be disbursed to each jurisdiction over six years as follows:

• Alberta — $1.7 billion (an increase of $ million, helping 124,000 additional workers)
• BC — $2.5 billion (an increase of $250 million, helping 84,000 additional workers)
• NWT — $46 million (an increase of $4 million, helping 1,300 additional workers)

The funding is provided under the new Workforce Development Agreement (WDA) and the Labour Market Development Agreement (LMDA).
