The Canadian Hydropower Association Announces New Corporate Name

WaterpowerCan 400

Mar 8, 2019

The Canadian Hydropower Association (CHA) – the national voice for hydropower in Canada – announced that it is changing its corporate name to WaterPower Canada (WPC). This name change reflects the organization’s commitment to provide clear and effective messaging to stakeholders and the public.

“This new corporate identity will capitalize on the great work accomplished over the past two decades, while embracing change. It will also help showcase the tremendous innovation, research and leadership role our industry plays both nationally and internationally”, noted Anne-Raphaëlle Audouin, President of WaterPower Canada, adding that “our core objective remains to significantly contribute to Canada’s climate action efforts and be recognized as the country’s main clean electricity asset, providing more than 60% of Canada’s electricity with the potential to do much more!”

Founded in 1998, the organization will continue to be membership-driven, and will operate under the same governance structure, through an elected representative Board of Directors.

“Waterpower is entrenched in Canada’s proud history of renewable electricity generation, yet there is an opportunity for it to play a pivotal role in helping Canada reach its clean electrification objectives thanks to its tremendous storage, resiliency and response attributes” said Mike Martelli, President, Renewable Generation at Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and WPC Board Chair.

The new name is effective immediately, and will be implemented across the organization’s activities. Consequently, the CHA’s annual Forum will be rebranded as the WaterPower Canada Conference and will take place September 25-26, in Montréal. More details on the WaterPower Canada Conference will be available in the coming weeks.

Founded in 1998, Waterpower Canada (WPC) – formerly the Canadian Hydropower Association (CHA) –  is the national trade association dedicated to representing the waterpower industry. Its members span the breadth of the sector and include waterpower producers, manufacturers, developers, engineering firms and consulting organizations. Waterpower Canadamembers represent more than 95% of the waterpower installed capacity in Canada, advocating for the responsible development and use of waterpower to meet our present and future electricity needs in a sustainable and collaborative manner.
