Italian Racing Motorcycles Equipped with CCS Vehicle Charging Inlet from Phoenix Contact

Energica Motor Company S.p.A. is the first Italian manufacturer of supersport electric motorcycles. The high performance motorcycles Ego Corsa are all equipped with the vehicle charging sockets CCS of Phoenix Contact E-Mobility.

The electric motorcycles will be used for the first time at the start of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup at Sachsenring on 7 July 2019. Energica is the only manufacturer represented at the World Cup.

A fire in March 2019 destroyed all racing machines, so the original start of the MotoE racing series had to be postponed to July. All vehicle charging inlets installed in these newly produced machines were sponsored by Phoenix Contact E-Mobility.

The CCS inlets enable both conventional AC and fast DC charging. The CCS charging interface offers maximum safety during the charging process. Monitoring the temperature at the power contacts is part of a safe charging process. Overheating due to high outside temperatures or overload is detected by the PT1000 resistance sensors. Another safety feature is the electromechanical locking bolt, which locks the charging connector in the vehicle inlet during the charging process, making it impossible to remove the charging connector under load.
