Security Cameras Spot Copper Wire Thieves at Hamilton Train Station

Two men are facing breaking and entering charges after the new West Harbour GO train station in Hamilton, ON after being caught with copper wire on August 26, reports CBC News.

A GO security guard for Ontario’s GO commuter train service spotted the alleged thieves on a bank of security cameras around 10:40 p.m. One man was seen climbing over the station’s fence and throwing spools of copper wire back over to a second man, police say.The security guard called police and gave them a description of the suspects. Shortly after, officers found two men carrying spools of stolen wire.

In 2013 alone, thieves stole 17.5 kilometres worth of copper wiring just from city streetlights.

According to CBC<A 57-year-old Hamilton man and a 43-year-old Hamilton man have been charged with breaking and entering and possession of stolen property under $5,000. The 43-year-old was also charged with two counts of breaching probation.
