Leviton Canada Achieves Another Year of Carbon Neutrality

Leviton Canada proudly reaffirms its commitment to sustainability by achieving carbon neutrality once again in 2023. The company has significantly reduced their environmental footprint by 32% compared to 2022, with a substantial impact on transportation.

Despite having energy-efficient lighting and relying on hydropower—a clean and renewable energy source—for their facility, transportation (both upstream and downstream) remains the primary contributor to our carbon footprint. In late 2022, they introduced the new order consolidation process designed to combine customer orders and optimize shipping schedules, resulting in reduced packaging waste and fewer individual trips, ultimately cutting down on emissions of polluting gases.

In 2023, Leviton Canada successfully reduced outbound mileage by an impressive 52% through the order consolidation process. This reduction corresponds to over 25 million miles (over 40 million kilometers) equivalent to 4,342 tCO2e saved. Despite the significant reduction in kilometers traveled, the number of units shipped remained within 5% of the units shipped in 2022, emphasizing the success of the order consolidation process.

Furthermore, as Canada ranks as the fourth-largest hydro power producer globally, with over 60% of its electricity generated from hydro sources, Leviton Canada aims to promote similar opportunities worldwide. With that in mind, Leviton Canada invested in the Nalcas Hydro Power Project in Chile, which comprises small run-of-river hydroelectric plants. This investment contributes to carbon neutrality but also creates local jobs and enhances Chile’s trade balance.

The company acheived a 1,190 tonne CO2e reduction from their 2021 baseline to 2023.

“Sustainability isn’t just a moral obligation; it’s a strategic imperative. At Leviton Canada, we’re dedicated to embedding sustainable practices across our operations, ensuring a prosperous future for our business and the planet,” stated Jason Prevost, President and Chief Operating Officer of Leviton Canada. “Our committed employees have driven us toward carbon neutrality, exemplifying our collective commitment to a greener, more sustainable future.”

In addition, Leviton has released its second Sustainability Report highlighting progress through fiscal year 2023 toward the company’s global goal of achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2030 (CN2030).

Developed in 2022, the CN2030 program is comprised of five action categories in which thcompany is poised to make the greatest impact across all business units: Carbon and Energy Reduction, Innovation, Reducing Jobsite Waste, Maximizing Recycling, and Water Stewardship.

The Leviton 2023 Sustainability Report is available on the company’s sustainability webpage.
