Luminis Wins Red Dot Award for Ellington

May 14, 2026

Luminis, an established innovator and manufacturer of specification-grade, interior and exterior lighting solutions, today announced its Ellington and Trilo families have each received a Red Dot Design Award for Product Design.

Dating back to 1955, the Red Dot Design Award is one of the world’s largest design competitions. Every year, the Red Dot Award: Product Design sets out to find the year’s best products. The Red Dot Jury comprises 40+ international experts from various specialties. Products selected by the Jury may be aesthetically appealing, functional, sustainable, or innovative, but they all share one thing in common: outstanding design.

Luminis Wins Red Dot Award for Ellington

Ellington blends retro and modern design to create a cohesive aesthetic, indoors or out. A recessed optical lens reduces glare while delivering soft, consistent, human-centric illumination. This enhances visual comfort and ensures optimal lighting performance. Dark Sky friendly, the luminaires help to reduce light pollution and preserve the natural darkness of the night sky. Outdoor applications include walkways, parks, and other pedestrian areas. Ellington carries the design aesthetic indoors in spaces such as reception areas, stairwells, offices, or lounges.

Trilo delivers a robust luminaire in a small form factor; its slim silhouette enhances a variety of pedestrian areas. It is the lightest exterior pole-mounted luminaire in the Luminis portfolio. One of Trilo’s standout features is its custom-designed 3” diameter pole. Over 90% of the single-head fixture with the 13-foot pole is made from aluminum, a material widely recyclable where proper facilities exist. And paired with a newly developed base, this pole design achieves an average 21% reduction in weight and volume compared to Luminis’ standard 4” diameter poles. This contributes to easier handling, more efficient transportation, and a streamlined installation process.

Ellington and Trilo Pelican will be featured in the Red Dot Design Yearbook, and will be celebrated, with all award winners, during the Red Dot Award Ceremony on July 7 in Essen, Germany.
