NESCO offers Bridgeport Grounding Locknuts from 3/4” to 4” Trade Sizes

Bridgeport now offers Grounding Locknuts from 3/4” to 4” Trade Sizes. These locknuts are ETL Listed for use with all of Bridgeport Fittings’ EMT and Rigid connectors, as well as threaded Rigid/IMC conduit. Bridgeport’s grounding locknuts provide a secure connection to the enclosure, and three tapped holes for proper placement of the ground lug. When thread length is limited, these can be used in place of a grounding bushing and standard locknut. Simply remove the standard locknut and thread on the grounding locknut. Bridgeport’s locknuts are also suitable for Service Entrance Equipment.

Network of Government Agencies Partner to Provide Expert Policy Assistance on Smart Grid Topics

Two Clean Energy Ministerial initiatives—the Clean Energy Solutions Center and the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN)—have partnered to provide smart grid policy expertise to a global audience through the Solutions Center’s Ask an Expert service. This collaboration fulfills a need among policy makers, who are keenly interested in smart grid deployment. By leveraging the existing network of ISGAN experts the Ask an Expert service can now provide no-cost assistance with smart grid program design to countries around the world.

 

Emergency Outages

Canadian Utilities Sign Multilateral Support Agreement for Emergency Outages

The agreement provides a ready mechanism for Canadian electricity industry companies to assist each other during emergencies. It covers assistance in all types of emergencies including, but not limited to, those caused by storms, natural disasters, equipment failures, or willful damage. This assistance could include personnel support, equipment and consumable supplies, or other services.

Smart Grid Funding

Smart Grid Bolstered by $3.5bn in 2016 U.S. Budget

The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) has put a request in the 2016 budget for US$3.5 billion over the next 10 years for investment in smart grid foundational technology development, enhanced security capabilities, and greater institutional support and stakeholder engagement. The request appears in the first installation of a Quadrennial Energy Review, which includes initiatives to promote grid modernization.

Study Highlights Potential for Tidal Energy in Canada

Over the next 25 years, Nova Scotia’s tidal energy industry could contribute up to $1.7 billion to the province’s gross domestic product (GDP), create up to 22,000 full time positions and generate as much as $815 million in labour income, according to a recently published study. These impacts are largely concentrated in Nova Scotia with spill-over effects in the Atlantic Region and elsewhere in Canada.
