Ontario Skilled Training Investment Includes NETCO and IBEW

The Ontario government is investing over $23 million through the Skills Development Fund (SDF) Training Stream to help more than 4,200 people across Mississauga and surrounding areas access better training for in-demand sectors such as construction, health care, transportation, manufacturing, aerospace and the skilled trades.

Electrical industry recipients:

National Electrical Trade Council (NETCO)

  • NETCO is receiving $2,889,720 to train 550 apprentices and journeypersons in advanced electrical trades across Ontario.
  • The project will include immersive training using virtual reality for hoisting, rigging, conduit bending, motor control and electric vehicle infrastructure.
  • Training will be delivered in partnership with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Training Centres and the Northern Centre for Advanced Technology (NORCAT), to modernize skills development and bridge skills gaps.

Ontario Electrical Industry Training Trust Fund

  • Ontario Electrical Industry Training Trust Fund is receiving $2,655,275 to train 95 apprentices, journeypersons and trade qualifiers in the Network Cabling Specialist trade.
  • The program will include classroom instruction, trade equivalency preparation and training provided in person at IBEW training centres in six locations across Ontario. Participants may also be able to receive paid on-the-job training.
  • Qualified participants will gain certification in the Network Cabling Specialist trade and be connected directly with employers for long-term employment.
