EFC Tariff Response: Advocating for Free Trade
February 7, 2025
STATEMENT FROM CAROL MCGLOGAN, PRESIDENT & CEO, ELECTRO-FEDERATION CANADA ON U.S. TARIFFS
Electro-Federation Canada (EFC), representing Canadaโs electrical and automation industry, strongly opposes the recent tariffs announced (an subsequently delayed) by President Trump on Canadian imports. These tariffs threaten to disrupt North American supply chains, increase costs for businesses and consumers, and put thousands of jobs at risk.
Carol McGlogan, President and CEO of Electro-Federation Canada, states that our industry relies on North Americaโs integrated supply chain, which leverages scale, expertise, and cost efficiencies to maintain global competitiveness.
โTariffs break down our competitiveness and hurt manufacturers, distributors, and the broader economy,โ McGlogan says. โThe electrical and automation sector plays a critical role in powering industries across North America, from energy and manufacturing to transportation and construction. Increased costs on essential components and equipment will impact businesses in both countries,โ she adds.
EFC calls on both governments to uphold the fair-trade policies agreed to as part of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and to find a resolution that supports continued economic growth and cooperation. EFC shall continue to advocate for its members and work alongside policymakers to ensure that Canadaโs electrical and automation sector remains competitive and resilient.
