PAM03 Photoelectric Amplifier: A Powerful Solution for Harsh Environments

June 2, 2025

The 4th generation photoelectric amplifier module for MOF… sensors.

The new PAM03… amplifier has been designed based on customer demands combined with our solid experience in harsh environments gained during the last forty years.

Carlo Gavazzi PAM03… amplifier module can operate alone, controlling 3 sets of MOF… sensors.

In addition, up to 10 amplifiers can be connected automatically in a master/ slave setup via the built-in communication port that shares power and control of up to 30 MOF… sensor sets. All connected MOF… sensors are multiplexed, to eliminate crosstalk.

“The PAM03… sensors system has been developed to operate in Industries such as automatic industrial doors and gates, stone crushing machine conveyor, car-wash systems and all applications that require sensors to work despite a build-up of dust and dirt or sense through dust, vapor or similar visibility hindrances.” Torben Rochat International Product Manager says. “With the launch of this photoelectric sensor amplifier we are ready to challenge the toughest sensing applications, thanks to its ease of use and service.”

Developed in our competence center in Denmark, this photoelectric sensor amplifier module has been designed to fulfill the industrial requirements in providing reliable detection of up to 50 m sensing distance.

  • Reduced machine set-up time: Integrated alignment control allows optimized adjustment of the sensors by means of flashing yellow LEDs combined with two distance setup modes: Automatic or manual via a trimmer. Excess gain and maximum distance are selectable via the DIP switches.
  • Reduced machine down-time: Built-in diagnostics: Tri-color LEDs show what type of error occurred and where, making fault finding quick and easy. Alarm output: Allows for predictive maintenance instead of waiting until built up dust or ice blind the sensors.
Sensor test function: A mute input on PAM03 allows the sensor system to be remotely tested in order to comply with the European standards for industrial automatic doors.
  • Reliable detection: The combination with the powerful MOF… sensor sets allows for reliable detection despite refracting icy vapor or high levels of dust in the environment.
  • High neighbor immunity: The highest neighbor immunity is achieved by multiplexing all connected MOF-family sensors, eliminating crosstalk. Up to 10 connected modules (Master/Slave set-up) can control up to 30 multiplexed sensor sets.
  • Approvals: International Door Standards EN12453, EN12978, UL325 and UL508.
