The Smith + Andersen Group Opens New Office in Hamilton

July 5, 2023

This new office is Smith + Andersen’s tenth in Canada, and will directly service clients in the Greater Hamilton and Niagara region.

The Canadian consulting engineering firm has already established relationships and successfully delivered projects across this region for more than thirty years. In 2012, the company opened an office in London, Ontario; this office has since grown steadily, expanding from offering mechanical and electrical engineering to also providing systems design services and delivering hundreds of projects to a diverse client portfolio. Today, the London office employs more than 30 local staff.

“Our focus is always on what our clients need, and we have seen and heard from local clients that there is a need for Smith + Andersen on the ground in and around Hamilton,” says Stephen McDermid, Principal of Smith + Andersen’s London office. “A dedicated local team shows our long-term commitment to this unique region – a commitment we’ve already established through outstanding service over several decades.”

The new office will be led by Associate Principal Raed El-Khatib, who will continue to work closely with Smith + Andersen’s London office, led by Principals Stephen McDermid and Brad Tilson, as the Hamilton office grows. Raed first joined Smith + Andersen in 2013, servicing clients across southern Ontario.

“Opening an office in Hamilton is a direct reflection of Smith + Andersen’s commitment to organic growth, employee empowerment, and quality client service,” says El-Khatib. “We’re driven by the needs of our clients, and this new office is a direct response to a clear client need. I’m proud to have participated in the growth of the Smith + Andersen London office over the past eleven years, and to now have the opportunity to lead the growth of this new office really speaks to the company culture of empowering employees.”

Footprint, a member of The Smith + Andersen Group, will open an office alongside Smith + Andersen in Hamilton, directly servicing their own well-established client base. Footprint’s Hamilton office is the sustainability consulting firm’s eighth office in Canada, and the seventh in which Smith + Andersen and Footprint work side-by-side.

The Smith + Andersen and Footprint Hamilton teams will be located at 312 – 286 Sanford Avenue North in the Gibson-Lansdale neighbourhood.
