A Groundbreaking Return to the Sir Robert Peel Centre for Ellis Don

November 10, 2025

In a full circle moment, EllisDon has broken ground on the Sir Robert Peel Centre Redevelopment Project, a facility originally constructed by EllisDon in the 1980s. Now, this milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter in Peel Region’s public safety infrastructure.

The redevelopment will deliver a modern, high-performance policing hub designed to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population and evolving public safety landscape.

“Breaking ground at the Sir Robert Peel Centre marks a unique opportunity to honour past achievements while shaping a forward-looking, modernized vision for the future” said Andrew Anderson, Senior Vice President and Area Manager, Toronto Buildings, EllisDon. “Now we can shape its future with the same care, innovation, and purpose that is characteristic of EllisDon. It’sa full-circle moment, and one that reminds us how powerful it is to build with intention, and for our future.”

Leadership in Action

The Sir Robert Peel Redevelopment Project is being delivered by EllisDon’s Toronto Buildings team, returning to a site they first built with the same commitment to precision and enduring quality back in the 1980s. Supported in part by EllisDon’s Sustainable Building Solutions and Building Material Sciences teams, they are applying advanced building systems and environmental strategies that reflect EllisDon’s leadership in high-performance civic infrastructure.

This coordinated effort is shaping a facility designed not only for operational excellence, but for long-term community impact—built to serve Peel Region today and well into the future.

Building the Future of Public Safety

The Sir Robert Peel Redevelopment Project will transform Peel Regional Police’s Division 22 into a modern, purpose-built complex that supports continuous, high-performance policing.

With advanced infrastructure including biometric-enabled detainee processing, and a state-of-the-art forensic lab, the facility is purpose-built to enhance public safety. These integrated systems support faster investigations, and more effective law enforcement, reinforcing the community’s trust in its protective services.

Through low-carbon concrete, and aiming to meet the Zero Carbon Building Standard, the project sets a benchmark for civic development—one that prioritizes resilience, efficiency, and long-term public value.

Built Then, Reimagined Now

As EllisDon returns to the Sir Robert Peel Centre, the redevelopment marks a meaningful continuation of a legacy we helped establish decades ago. Beneath the surface lies more than just the original structure—it’s a foundation being reimagined to serve the future. What’s being unearthed isn’t just concrete and steel, but the opportunity to create something enduring, impactful, and built to last the next 45 years and beyond.
