Section 32: Fire Alarm Systems, Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms, and Fire Pumps – Self-Paced Online Training

This course is part of the CSA Group Modular Online Training Program. This online course provides an overview of Section 32 in the 2024 Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. Rather than reviewing the Code in its entirety, this course is designed to provide an overview of Section 32 of the CE Code.

This Section applies to the installation of electrical local fire alarm systems, permanently connected carbon monoxide alarms, and fire pumps required by the National Building Code of Canada.

A certificate of achievement is provided upon completion of the course.

For nearly 90 years, the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I has been and continues to be a comprehensive model Code that provides guidance to help make electrical installations and equipment safer.

Learning Objectives

After taking this course, you will be able to:

• Identify parts and requirements for a fire alarm system.
• Describe the two methods of electrical supervision for fire alarm systems: a conventional system and an addressable system.
• Describe installation requirements for carbon monoxide alarms.
• Describe requirements and protection methods for a fire pump.
• Describe the three ways disconnecting means and overcurrent protection for a fire pump can be set-up.
• Recognize the requirements for transfer switches for fire pumps.
