The Government of Canada has implemented counter-tariffs on selected U.S.-origin goods. The applicable surtax rates vary by product category and may range from 15% to 50%, depending on the product classification and origin. These tariffs apply specifically to products manufactured in the United States, regardless of where they are purchased.

For the electrical industry, categories identified as potentially affected include:

• Insulated wire and cable
• Selected steel and aluminum products
• Electrical distribution and control equipment
• Lighting products
• Conduit and fittings
• Telecommunications infrastructure products
• Certain industrial and material handling products

Recent updates to the government’s tariff list also added certain copper wire products to the counter-tariff program.
