ABB Launches the Microlectric® BS225M-TCVCN Meter Socket to Support Growing Demand for Solar Energy

October 1, 2026

  • Simplifies integration of solar energy into residential electrical systems
  • Provides greater flexibility for homes to connect to equipment
  • Supports long-distance installations

As energy costs continue to rise and grid reliability becomes increasingly critical, Canadians are choosing renewable energy solutions. Solar installations are expanding across the country, supported by utility programs and financial incentives. In response to this growing demand, ABB developed the Microlectric® BS225M-TCVCN, a CSA-certified, ready-to-install 225A bi-directional meter socket designed to simplify solar installations and support the evolving needs of residential electrical systems.

The BS225M-TCVCN offers a dual subfeed design, enabling two independent connections directly from a single meter socket. This allows electricians to support a range of installation scenarios, such as connecting a solar panel system alongside a main load centre or connecting a primary residence and a secondary building like a garage. By reducing the need for additional distribution equipment, the design helps streamline installations while providing system flexibility.

What the BS2225M-TCVCN changes for you

  • Built-in solar integration. The solar panel system connects directly thanks to its dual load‑side connection.
  • One meter socket, two pieces of equipment. The integrated dual subfeed offers greater flexibility (house + garage, house + solar panels).
  • Designed for Canada’s requirements. Designed and manufactured locally for Canadian needs. CSA certified. Durable Type 3R weatherproof enclosure for overhead or underground installations.

“Traditional electrical installations are no longer sufficient to support today’s evolving energy needs,” said Leila Sedighi, Vice-President Product & Marketing, ABB Installation Products. “As more Canadians turn to solar energy, electricians need reliable solutions that help simplify installation while ensuring safety and compliance. The Microlectric BS225M-TCVCN was designed to meet these needs and support the transition to the modern energy ecosystem.”

Engineered for performance in diverse environments, the Microlectric BS225M-TCVCN supports long-distance installations with oversized load-side connectors. This makes it well suited for rural applications where meter sockets are often installed on utility poles rather than directly on buildings, helping reduce installation costs.

Built for solar applications, the Microlectric BS225M-TCVCN features oversized terminals, a combination of overhead/underground configuration and flexible grounding options. Together, these elements streamline connections between solar systems and service entrances, helping to improve installation efficiency while maintaining high safety standards.

The product also reflects ABB’s commitment to sustainability. The BS225M-TCVCN is the first product in the Microlectric portfolio to receive the ABB EcoSolutions™ designation, meeting ABB’s circularity criteria across the full product lifecycle — from design and sourcing through manufacturing, use phase and end-of-life considerations.

Designed and manufactured in Canada in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, the Microlectric BS225M-TCVCN strengthens ABB’s meter sockets portfolio by combining installation simplicity, application flexibility and sustainability in a single product. It can be ordered in Canada exclusively through ABB’s nationwide distribution partners.

For more information about the Microlectric BS225M-TCVCN, visit ABB’s website or contact your local distributor.

Important: Electricians must always contact their local Utility /Authority having jurisdiction prior to installation of a meter socket to validate it is approved for installation in their area.
