EHRC’s 2016 Electricity Industry Leader of the Year: Mike Marsh, SaskPower President and CEO

October 27, 2016

Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC), Canada’s leading source for human resources research and tools for the electricity and renewable energy industry, has named Mike Marsh, President and CEO of SaskPower, Leader of the Year.

Mr. Marsh will be honoured at EHRC’s awards luncheon on December 8 in Toronto.

Mr. Marsh has been a leading figure in Saskatchewan’s electricity industry for almost 25 years. Joining SaskPower in 1991, Mr. Marsh began his career in engineering and maintenance. He spent the next two decades playing a key role across a number of business functions, and in 2014 took the helm as President and CEO.

He brings leadership to this role, which is borne out of his experience and passion for the business. He is widely regarded and respected by his colleagues and peers in the sector.

As SaskPower continues to make significant investments in the province’s electrical system, Mr. Marsh recognizes the valuable contribution of the workforce in leading the industry through a time of change and renewal.

Speaking on behalf of EHRC, Norm Fraser, Chair, congratulated Mr. Marsh: “We are pleased to recognize Mike as this year’s winner. He is a great leader with a fair and amicable way of engaging with people, having strong labour relations skills from years of experience at the bargaining table. As a proponent of health and safety, Mike possesses the necessary experience to support and lead the industry forward.”

The Leader of the Year award was established by EHRC in 2013 to recognize and celebrate an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to their organization within the Canadian electricity industry through visionary people management strategies and leadership. The successful nominee is an individual who has affected positive change and is dedicated to ensuring that their workforce has the opportunity and skills to contribute to the business’ overall strategy and success.
