On October 17, S&C Electric Canada Ltd. hosted a WiRE (Women in Renewable Energy) speed mentoring event in which 25 mentees gained one-on-one private mentoring sessions with S&C experts. WiRE speed mentoring sessions helps students and new professionals entering the energy field, to receive mentorship and feedback from experienced industry professionals with established careers in the energy sector.

As reported by Isobel Parsonage, Marketing, Business Development & PR at S&C Electric Company, mentees networked in S&C’s state of the art Solution Centre, where they were able to see and interact with S&C’s innovational products up close.

The event was an overwhelming success for both mentors and mentees. 100% of the mentees that completed post event feedback forms stated that they left the event with more than one actionable piece of advice that will aid them on their career journey. The feedback was equally positive from the mentors’ side, where all of the mentors surveyed commended the mentees on their skills and professionalism.

“S&C is a company founded on the principles of respect for people, and being a good neighbour in the communities in which we operate. Events such as these, offer us the chance to realize both goals at once, whilst tackling the serious issue of gender diversity that is impacting our industry right now,” says Angelo Gravina, President of S&C Electric Canada Ltd.
“S&C has recently signed the Leadership Accord on Gender Diversity and we are honoured and excited to offer events like this to not only tackle this mentoring conundrum and aid more women to enter and progress in our industry, but also offer our own female team members opportunities to network, demonstrate their leadership skills and share their experiences. We recognize that it is equally important to give our successful women the opportunity to showcase themselves as role models to the next generation, then it is to offer the next generation access to mentors.”

The event was an overwhelming success for both mentors and mentees: 100% of mentees who completed post event feedback forms stated that they left the event with more than one actionable piece of advice that will aid them on their career journey. The feedback was equally positive from the mentors’ side, where all of the mentors surveyed commended the mentees on their skills and professionalism.
