Ontario Electricians Facing Hardships to Receive Greater Discretion Re: License Renewal
June 18, 2019
Ontario’s Ministry of Government and Consumer Services is introducing a hardship clause to the Licensing of Electrical Contractors and Master Electricians regulation (O. Reg. 570/05), under the Electricity Act, 1998. Coming into effect on January 1, 2020, the clause will give the Electrical Safety Authority the discretion to allow individuals more time to meet master electrician license renewal requirements if they are unable to meet them due to extenuating circumstances.
This clause is expected to save individuals and businesses at least $165 — the cost of writing the Master Electrician exam. On average, the savings could be $630 per individual or business for exam preparation, and another $105 in lost wages.
