Acuity Brands, Inc. announced it has entered into a private label supply agreement with UV Angel to enable Acuity Brands to purchase and resell the UV Angel Clean Air™ pathogen control system, as well as pursue joint developments of UV light disinfection products. The UV Angel Clean Air system integrates UV-C light technology into a ceiling-mount luminaire that offers an unobtrusive environmental treatment system that uses concealed ultraviolet light to safely treat air automatically and continuously to neutralize pathogens. The agreement provides Acuity Brands with limited exclusivity for certain private label products throughout North America.

“Our agreement with UV Angel builds upon Acuity Brands’ offering of an industry-leading selection of advanced technologies and approaches to meet the diverse disinfection and budget requirements of our customers,” said Gary Trott, Vice President of Technology Commercialization, Acuity Brands Lighting.

Applications for the UV Angel Clean Air system include any commercial indoor space where a reduction in harmful pathogens is desired or required. Examples of indoor spaces that could benefit from the UV Angel Clean Air system include health care, education, commercial office, hospitality, retail, manufacturing (e.g., food processing plants), and general public and customer indoor gathering spaces at airports, restaurants and theatres.

“We are working to provide an unmatched portfolio of UV disinfection technology solutions, including: UV Angel’s highly effective approach to upper air room treatment using patented UV-C treatment technology; a continual air and surface disinfection solution for occupied and unoccupied spaces; and pulsed xenon technology to offer a rapid surface disinfection solution,” Trott said. “We believe these advanced UV light disinfection technologies coupled with Acuity Brands’ product portfolio of lighting, lighting controls and intelligent building solutions uniquely positions us to meet our customers’ evolving disinfection needs and help promote wellbeing in a variety of indoor locations.”

About the UV Angel Clean Air system

The UV Angel Clean Air system operates by quietly drawing in surrounding room air, even in occupied spaces, into a sealed UV-C air chamber with a series of fans and a filter. The air is then circulated through the UV-C air chamber where it is treated with an enclosed high-intensity UV-C light to inactivate viruses, bacteria, and fungi in the air. The treated air is then returned to the room, creating a cleaner environment. The unit is designed to specifically target source control right at the room level and operates continuously 24/7 independent of the HVAC system.

“It is exciting for us to partner with a leading company committed to health and safety like Acuity Brands,” said Paul Byrne, Vice President of Product for UV Angel. “This aligns with our mission to provide advanced life-changing pathogen control technologies worldwide. UV Angel Clean Air is another example of our commitment to this mission, and a result of years of advanced research and development in ultraviolet light and IoT-enabled technologies to create a modern and effective air treatment system with a proven efficacy.”

Acuity Brands expects to have products with the UV Angel Clean Air pathogen control system in stock within the first calendar quarter of 2021. For more information about the UV light disinfection solutions offered by Acuity Brands, please visit UV Disinfection Technology.
