Illumisoft Upper Room GUV Recognized for Technical Innovation

EIN Sanilume Illumisoft 400

September 7, 2021

Illumisoft’s SaniLume UVC light fixture has been honored by an international technical society as an innovative and significant addition to the commercial lighting industry. The SaniLume upper room GUV fixture was selected to be part of the 2021 Progress Report published by the Illuminating Engineering Society(IES). SaniLume fixtures neutralize airborne pathogens as they pass through a germicidal UV (GUV) treatment field safely above occupants’ heads.

The IES Progress Committee recognizes Illumisoft’s SaniLume disinfecting technology “as a unique and significant advancement to the art and science of lighting.”

For classrooms, public buildings and offices, upper room GUV represents another tool to help fight airborne illnesses like COVID-19 and the seasonal flu. The SaniLume technology is easy to install and does not require changes to ventilation systems. It provides quiet, continuous, effective sanitization of air circulating in occupied indoor spaces.

“We are very pleased with this recognition from IES. It validates our efforts to make upper room GUV – a proven healthcare technology – accessible to businesses, schools and government agencies scrambling for solutions to a new threat,” says Brett Nicholds, CEO, Illumisoft Lighting.

“Our upper room GUV has the highest UVC output in the industry, making it more effective at neutralizing pathogens,” says Leslie Howe, founder and chief technology officer for Illumisoft Lighting. “It offers adjustable apertures, allowing the UVC output to be directed for maximum effectiveness.”

The IES Progress Committee reviews developments in lighting engineering and accepts those developments considered a substantial advancement to what currently exists in the field. In addition, all products accepted for the Progress Report undergo an impartial judging process.

Illumisoft’s SaniLume fixtures provided an easy-to-install, effective solution that is suitable for long-term care facilities, retirement homes, schools, daycares, offices, and workplaces. They were developed by Illumisoft, an Ottawa-area manufacturer, in response to the safety concerns expressed by those responsible for schools, offices and public buildings during the pandemic and now, as we all look to re-open safely.
