Lighting Professionals – Knowledge is Power

By Leonie Janssen – Head of Global Product Management, TLEDs – Philips Lighting

At Philips Lighting we recently asked lighting professionals for their views on the current, and future, state of the industry – what was clear was a knowledge gap emerging. Almost half of Installers surveyed indicated that they needed more support when it comes to selling to and advising clients. So, what is causing this gap and more importantly, how can it be fixed?

The LED Revolution

While new LED technology creates an entirely new range of lighting products for lighting professionals to become familiar with, the opportunities far outweigh the negatives. Playing such crucial roles in the lighting process, Installers have the opportunity to really take the lead in educating clients on the benefits of LED technology.

The Changing Client

As the industry changes and technology advances, so too does the client. Faced with shrinking budgets for lighting projects, many clients now (understandably) look for the absolute best deal possible – often getting quotes from different Installers.

Having said that, many clients do rely on the expertise of the Installer for the majority of projects – in fact, 71% of clients are likely to ask Installers for advice, while many Installers believe their advice is trusted and respected.

Be Ready for the Future

Philips Lighting helps installers navigate the latest changes in technology, by providing them access to advice, products, tools and assistance they need to better serve clients. Alongside a simplified product portfolio, Philips Lighting aims to lead the way with lighting education through its Canadian Real Pros microsite and its Lighting University – an online portal offering knowledge and advice on everything lighting.

After all – knowledge is power.
