Horizon Utilities completes $1.8 million modernization project in St. Catharines

September 15, 2016

Horizon Utilities Corporation has completed a modernization project involving the replacement of over 10 kilometres of new overhead wires supported by 84 new poles and 11 new transformers.

These improvements, together with underground cable, overhead switches and manhole vaults, were required before scheduled road construction begins in early 2017 on Martindale Road between the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) and Highway 406. Horizon Utilities’ began its infrastructure upgrades in January with an expected completion date of Autumn 2016.

The on-time conclusion of Horizon Utilities’ infrastructure investments will allow the project to progress in accordance with the Regions’ timelines.

As part of Horizon Utilities’ commitment to better meet current and future electricity needs, the local utility is investing nearly $38 million in capital projects this year, including $27 million for system renewal efforts.
