Only Days Left to Apply for Ontario Smart Grid Funding

Smart Grid

Mar 19, 2018

The province is accepting applications for the Smart Grid Fund until March 23, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. EST.

The Smart Grid Fund supports projects that test, develop and bring to market the next generation of energy grid solutions, helping consumers and businesses manage energy costs, improve conservation efforts, and integrate new beneficial technologies like electric vehicles and storage. It’s intended to help accelerate the growth of Ontario’s smart grid industry through targeted financial support for projects that advance the development of the smart grid in Ontario and provide economic development opportunities.

This round of funding supports two types of projects: pilot projects by businesses and other entities that seek to commercialize new and innovative smart grid technologies, and deployment projects that help Ontario utilities acquire and install grid modernizing solutions.

The Smart Grid Fund supports projects that test, develop and bring to market the next generation of energy grid solutions, helping consumers and businesses manage energy costs, improve conservation efforts, and integrate new beneficial technologies like electric vehicles and storage.

This call for applications is for Phase 1 of Round 4 of funding. Phase 2 of Round 4 will launch later this spring, giving eligible applicants more time to complete their applications.
Ontario recently invested $10.5 million to support 12 Round 3 Smart Grid Fund projects. Since 2011, the Smart Grid Fund has supported 37 projects, directly created about 800 jobs, and led to nearly $200 million in total sector investments in grid modernizing technologies.
